Three virtues of rewarding yourself

"Whenever excellence is recounted, it is increased.”

In our Track Selling workshops, we teach that to remain resilient, engaged, and happy in your sales career, you need to take time to reward yourself when you accomplish meaningful tasks.

Tasks deserving rewards might include accomplished goals for your professional or personal development, a big sale that you made, or a new professional certification.

Here are three virtues of rewarding yourself after meaningful accomplishments.

  • Reinforces the positive vibe of the win.
  • Reminds you it's worth going through the up-and-down cycles of selling.
  • Keeps your emotional armor intact so you're not overcome by the dings of  discouragement.

Rewards can be tangible or intangible, big or small. It's your call.

Rewards often cited in our workshops include:

  • Dinner and a movie with a spouse
  • A new item of clothing
  • Time away from work, like a long weekend
  • Begin a new hobby, such as a foreign language or musical instrument
  • Shopping
  • Massage or pedicure

On the dark side, what are the risks of not rewarding yourself? Burnout, indifference, and resentment.

So the next meaningful accomplishment that you make, take a moment to plan and provide a meaningful reward to pamper yourself.

By doing so you'll increase your longevity, productivity, and staying power. There are lots of people depending on you to hang tough, so reward yourself.

Good luck and good selling.
