402 years ago a small group of Pilgrims barely survived their first year in America. Soon after they arrived, an epidemic decimated nearly half the colony.
As they gathered at that first Thanksgiving, five kernels of corn were placed in front of each plate. It reminded survivors of the desperate circumstances when their daily ration was five kernels of corn.
It also reminded them to be grateful to God and the Wampanoags, a local Native American group that helped them survive rough entry into a new world.
This is Thanksgiving Week 2023. It's been a difficult three years since COVID and current global conflicts.
Regardless of your personal traditions and beliefs, perhaps before you break bread this Thanksgiving, give thanks that you are still here, with hope in a bounteous harvest in 2024.
Let the pilgrim's gratitude tradition live on through you.
Good luck and good selling. |
